Take care of your community and your loved ones with our South Carolina Life Insurance!
Imagine if you were on a nice bike ride along the Beaufort Country bridge. You may think nothing can stop you from having fun and taking in the fresh air, but then you look down and see trash. According to The Beaufort Gazette, litter has begun to deter bicyclists from using some of the county’s bridges and roads.
Last weekend, Joe DeVito rode with friends to Hunting Island State Park, and came upon a tire on Sea Island Parkway. This is a frequent and frustrating occurrence, and one DeVito hopes will be cleared up. DeVito says it's not just the S.C. Department of Transportation's responsibility to keep roadways clean. "It's everybody who throws their bottle or their beer can and their items out of the window of the car," he said.

However, this week, sweepers will focus on state-owned roads in northern Beaufort County to clean up problem areas, said Carol Hardage, contracting officer at DOT's Beaufort Maintenance Office. The sweepers are used when debris starts to pile up, especially along curbs and gutters, she said.
