According to The Island Packet, a single-wide mobile home on St. Helena Island was destroyed. On Monday evening, officials were called to a suspicious fire. The home was unoccupied due to the homeowners being out of town, so luckily, no injuries were reported.
According to Lady's Island-St. Helena Fire District spokesman Lee Levesque, firefighters received a call from a passerby at about 5:30 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered that the power to the mobile home had been cut off.
"Once we knew that (the fire) was not related to cooking or an electrical problem, we started to think that it may be suspicious," Levesque said. Firefighters were able to completely extinguish the blaze, but the flames had devastated much of the structure, and damage from smoke and soot made the home uninhabitable, Levesque said.
